Treasure Coast Drug Arrests
Florida drug laws are among the most rigid in the country. In the Treasure Coast, drug arrest attorneys know that if someone is arrested for carrying even the smallest amount of marijuana (20 grams or less), he or she could face up to a year in jail, if convicted. Other negative aspects of a drug charge are not common knowledge. For example, a conviction on any drug charge in the state of Florida results in an automatic driver’s license suspension of at least six months, up to two years
If you or a loved one is facing drug charges, these statistics are a frightening reality. The good news is that with expert representation, jail time may not be a foregone conclusion. Skilled Treasure Cost drug arrest lawyers know the rights afforded by the law to each and every one of their clients, and will fight diligently to protect them.
All drug arrest lawyers, including those in the Treasure Coast area, advise their clients not to speak to law enforcement officials until and unless an attorney is present. To the inexperienced, such a request for silence may seem unreasonable. However, police are quite skilled in interrogation, and any information - even "harmless" chatting - might provide enough information for a conviction.
Criminal defense attorneys in the Treasure Coast, including Port St. Lucie, Vero Beach, Stuart and surrounding cities face difficult legal challenges every day for their clients. When it comes to drug charges, the challenges are multiplied because most penalties are mandatory if the accused is convicted. As a result, criminal defense lawyers have become knowledgeable and thoroughly understand each law as it pertains to the unique circumstances of each client. They tirelessly study each individual fact and piece of evidence to protect rights and provide a strong defense.
New Drug Laws in Florida
The Florida State Legislature passed Senate Bill 1050 in 2010
(2), which bolsters the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act of 2005. This bill goes into effect January 1, 2011 and provides monitoring tools to retailers as well as:
Establishes limits of the sale and purchase amounts of ephedrine and related products
Sets requirements for retailers to ensure accurate reporting of sales of these products
Provides Florida Law Enforcement with data for investigation
Data collected is allowed as evidence in related drug arrest cases
New bills for laws and regulations are constantly being introduced into the Florida State Legislature, so securing representation by criminal defense lawyers who are well versed in existing and proposed drug laws is critical to a sound defense.
